It is the intent of the R.E curriculum to:
- Develop knowledge and respect of the diverse religions in the community and around the world
- Understand the importance of celebrations and ceremonies
RE will be taught in block units in addition to daily opportunities to discuss values, beliefs and customs. Within the curriculum, children have the opportunity to learn a diversity of religions, their customs, beliefs and key figures.
Our links to the community and local religious organisations will allow for worship as a whole school and helps bring religious education to life.
At Silfield Oak we follow the Jigsaw RE programme plus additional planning to fulfil our local needs. We also use our literature spine to support RE across the schools, and ensure our children are exposed to many different belief and values.
Jigsaw RE is an enquiry-based scheme of work, covering the principal world faiths and humanism in a progressive way from Reception to Year 6. In the early years, the learning is closely matched to Development Matters to contribute meaningfully to your child’s holistic development. Throughout all the enquiries, the children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural education is carefully considered.
Each enquiry lasts for half a term and begins with a “big” question, the children then start discussing the theme of the enquiry from their own experience.
Jigsaw RE gives schools a choice of which religions to teach in different year groups. At Silfield Oak Primary Academy we have chosen the following world views:
Year Group | World Views studied |
Reception | Christianity, Islam, Sanatana Dharma, Sikhi, Judaism |
1 | Christianity, Judiasm |
